The yard test including pre-test inspection must be completed within 20 minutes. If the test is terminated for any reason, the entire test will have to be repeated. Knocking any cone, pillar or obstacle will result in instant failure and the rest of the test will be terminated. Road rules and observation will apply and is part of the test, the only thing you can leave out during the yard test is wearing your seat belt and the push and pull method of steering. Apply all your observations strictly and use your indicators.

Alley docking to the left and right

The side that is done first will be decided by the examiner, this is usually determined by available slots as more than one learner can be doing their test at the same time. Alley Docking Step One You examiner will instruct you to park the vehicle at the starting point. You will then reverse into the designated bay without touching any obstacles. Part of this maneuver is to apply all your observations. The vehicle is not allowed to move forward at any point. You have 2 attempts to properly reverse the vehicle. If on your first attempt you determine your position is off, you may stop at any point, return to the beginning and start alley docking again. This is you final attempt and your examiner will mark this as your second attempt. Alley Docking Step Two Your examiner will instruct you to move the vehicle out of the designated bay without touching any obstacles and park where indicated.

Incline Start and Pull Away

Your examiner will instruct you to park at the starting point before the line. You have to bring the vehicle to a stop without moving backwards You have to take off without the vehicle rolling You only get one attempt to successfully complete this maneuver

U Turn

You will position the vehicle at the starting point. You need to turn the vehicle around in the opposite direction without touching any obstacles or lines. You can only do this maneuver with two forward and one reverse action.

Parallel parking to the left and right

Here also, the examiner determines the first direction. Parking Step one With parallel parking you also have two attempts to successfully maneuver the vehicle into the parking bay provided you do not touch any obstacles on your first attempt. The extra attempt given is merely to correct your judgment and change your turning cycle. You will position the vehicle at the starting point. You need to reverse the vehicle into the parking bay without touching any obstacles. Successful parallel parking is when you are able park the car with only 3 movements or less. The first movement is reversing the car, the second and third movement is to correctly position the vehicle in the bay, this is usually one forward movement to straighten the car and a third to center the vehicle in the bay. Parking Step two You need to move the vehicle out of the parking bay without touching any obstacles and stop where indicated. There is no limit to the amount of movements to exit the bay.
You're done! Take a breath, put on your seat belt and get ready for your road test.
