Rules and Observations, Question 8 query
On the light motor vehicles learner's test, question 8 of Rules and observations, the question is:
You may pass another vehicle on its left-hand side if:
1 The vehicle indicates that it is going to turn right
2 The vehicle drives on the right-hand side of a road with a shoulder where you can pass
3 The vehicle drives in a town in the right-hand lane with two lanes in the same direction
and the "correct" answer is: (1) and (2) are correct.
However one may NOT pass on the shoulder and (3) IS correct, I believe..... am I wrong?

I fully agree with you on this Chris. The answer has to be wrong and I was very surprised that it was marked correct on the test.
However, I would have answered (1) only. You may only overtake in town in a double carriage-way if the car in the right lane is indicating to turn right. That is my understanding of the law. The person should move over to the left lane to allow you to pass on the right if he is not turning (this keeps the most important rule of the road in SA as valid - Keep left, pass right).
Not sure if anyone else can give more clarity?
