I would like to change my houses windows from wood to aluminium, when they are replacing the windows will my house be open and exposed during the process or is there a system that the builders use so that the window openings are not open for too long?
Im worried about the weather and burglars, We are living in the same house already.
All of my windows must be changed with the doors. its a about of 13 windows, 2 big doors and one normal size door, some of it is leaking and i think its rotten. Or would it be safer to find someone to refurbish the windows that are already there

If you are replacing the windows with same windows then they usually replace it the same day. It takes about 2 hours per window.
The procedure is more or less as follow:
They first remove the window as neatly as possible without damaging the side walls, they usually do this by breaking out the center column of the old window, allowing them to fold the rest of the frame and take it out.
They then place the new complete window into position.
Once the window is in position they chip away a small part on the top, right, left and bottom of the window which allows them to mount a bracket from the window to the wall which fixes it in place. They then plaster over the bracket so its not visible.
Once the window is fixed, the opening is closed. So you dont have to worry about it being open and exposed over night.
A point of note:
Make sure that before the place the new window, it must be wrapped in heavy duty clear plastic.
