Cars sale yellow form and blue form

When I sell my car what are my responsibilities regarding the yellow form and blue form for registration and changing the ownership of the vehicle.

Is it safe for me to complete the yellow and blue form and hand it to the buyer for processing ?

On the top left corner of the yellow form the instructions are clear, it says:
  1. The seller must complete sections A and C of the yellow from, the buyer must complete section B
  2. The seller must hand over the current registration certificate to the buyer
  3. The seller must furnish the yellow form to the regitration office with 21 days after the date of sale
  4. The buyer must apply for registration at the registration office within 21 days after the sale of the vehicle, they must produce the current registration certificate that you provided as in (2)
Since the formulation of the yellowform, a lot has changed and there is plenty that is doesnt tell you, such as:
  • Always make a copy of the buyers ID and valid proof of address, take this with the yellow from when you submit the change of ownership
  • Dont ever give your only copy of the yellow form to the buyer, if they loose it or fail to register the car, you will be liable for fines and licensing
The safest thing you can do, is accompany the buyer to the traffic department and do the complete registration with the yellow and blue form on the day of the sale, once payment is completed.
